Methyl Charge+TM represents a second generation methylation formulation, focusing on the catalytic activity of methyltranferases, a large class of important enzymes that broadly catalyze the transfer of methyl groups and thus modify DNA and gene expression.

First generation methylation supplements focused solely on raising 5-MTHF (L-5- methyltetrahydrofolate), the naturally-occurring, active form of folic acid, to counter methylation issues arising from variations in the MTHFR gene (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase).

While this new formulation can be a stand-alone supplement to safely increase methylation dynamics in hypomethylators, it was originally developed to pair with our NAD+ GoldTM product.

Methylation is critical to detoxification, glutathione regeneration1, and DNA repair, but early approaches to methylation ignored the vital connection of methylation cycles to the NAD+ cycle (see image below).

In fact, supplementation with any compounds in the vitamin B3 family was intentionally avoided, as these NAD+ precursors were thought at the time to act as “methyl sponges”.

Unfortunately, imbalanced supplementation with only pro-methylation compounds often yielded short-term benefits which gave way to a “crash” that is now understood to be mitochondrial dysfunction downstream of NAD+ deficiency.
